Global Help is in maintaining mode – working on next update

Hi all,

we know – long time no see. Due to different changes in our company (Re-Organization, moved the office, and expanded business areas) we could not focus on Global Help. But this is changing now. We are logging new emergency numbers and contacts of embassies world wide in the database for next export, we already fixed some clipping and some small issues, fixed wrong data, and added the GPS information as a additional information.

So please be patient with us, we try hard to release a new version of Global Help before the end of this year. And for next year we wanna do frequent updates with new data – maybe on a monthly base.

Logo of Global Help app changed slightly

After our first release of Global Help we noticed, that the emergency numbers we used to show the function of app were just to small – especially on the iPhone 4 with the new display. The 911 and 112 were to small between all these numbers on the circles, so we redesigned the logo slightly. Now with the new version we show the two most important emergency numbers in a crisper and better way. See below the comparison of both versions:

Additional Hints:
• Smoking is prohibited the first time in all tents – there are special areas for smoking
• keep you money in a safe pocket, we have pickpockets around
• don’t drink too much, the Oktoberfest beer is quite strong and you get 1 Liter (0,26 Gallon or 2,11 Pints) mugs
• @ the boys: be nice to your girls and respect them, the “Dirndl” is a traditional costume and no invitation
• @ the girls: you will see lot of firm boys in “Lederhosn” which is also a traditional costume

Global Help crashes – what can I do?

If you encounter issues while using Global Help, you can try following. Make sure you have a backup version of Global Help on your Mac or PC within your iTunes environment. You will delete the installed version on your iPhone or iPod, and synchronize it again from your Mac or PC. Here the steps:

Start your iPhone or iPod touch.
Go to the screen where you can see the Global Help app.
Put your finger on the app and hold the finger till all apps start shaking.
You will see a white cross at the upper left corner on all custom apps.
Now, touch on the cross next to the Global Help app.
You will see a message that you are in progress to delete Global Help.
Confirm this step by clicking on “Delete”.
No need to rate the app (but you can, if you want), so you can click on “No”.
Now press the Home button (the big one at the bottom)
Apps stop shaking and the cross marks are gone.
Connect your iPhone with your computer and synchronize again.
Global Help will be installed new.
Disconnect your iPhone and please try again.

This can solve issues after you have updated “Global Help” with a newer version or after you have installed a newer iPhone OS version. You can use these steps also for all other apps with same symptoms.

But no panic if you deleted Global Help, the iTunes Store knows all about your purchases. So, just visit the App Store and get Global Help again for free. You have to tab on the “Buy now” button, and following message appears:

This update is free because you own a previous version of this item. To get this update now, select OK. You can update this software application for free. Would you like to update?

Bugfix for Global Help 1.5.1

Bug We are currently working on a bugfix for Global Help Version 1.5.

Issue:

Adding a new category with phone number and comments will not be displayed in the Country view after restarting Global Help.

You will see that your created category is still in the list of additonal categories (in the Edit mode), but the entry with phone number and comment is gone. This is very bad and we are planing to submit the fix to Apple this week. Depending on the approval process, we will have the fixed Version 1.5.1 asap.

RED SEA RESEARCH (http://www.redsearesearch.org/) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing professional training to recreational and non-divers who wish to contribute to the future health of the environment we all enjoy so much.

RED SEA RESEARCH trains you in essential research methodology and survey data gathering techniques to the standards required by marine research establishments; while earning an internationally recognised qualification. This qualification enables you to participate in marine research projects with skill and confidence.

RED SEA RESEARCH has developed a modular scientific diving course aimed at marine science students and environmentally active recreational divers. It is our goal to establish a competent, experienced volunteer workforce capable of being an asset to any marine research project.

RED SEA RESEARCH courses increase a diver’s environmental awareness; we also provide an excellent grounding for students in the diving techniques required to become a marine environmental academic.

A by-product of RED SEA RESEARCH courses includes the accumulation of relevant baseline data retrieved while conducting repetitive surveys during research diver training. This data allows us to ascertain any changes in the condition of the reef through the collection of comparative data, which is crucial to future environmental research. The scope of our courses will expand as volunteers gain knowledge and experience through actively participating in research projects and contributing to our understanding of the marine environment. As our volunteer membership increases, the number and variety of projects we can undertake will increase, which will benefit the environment and people it supports.

This progressive expansion will help us to further understand the complexities of tropical marine environments and the ecosystems they sustain, with the aim of preservation through understanding, experience and responsible reef management. RED SEA RESEARCH profits will be reintegrated into funding for ongoing and future research making our environmental projects self financing.
